🍎 Teacher Tuesday 🍎

Daniel Walsh has 10 years of teaching experience in primary education. Before coming to KSA, he taught in the North West of England, London, Qatar, and China. He holds a BA in Education with English Language from Liverpool Hope University and later completed a Schools-Centred Initial Teacher Training Program in Lancashire.

A particular highlight of his career thus far is his extensive experience in various pastoral roles, an area of teaching for which he has a particular passion. Recently, while teaching at Harrow Shanghai, he completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership course in behaviour and culture.

Mr. Walsh loves to travel and experience different cultures. Harking back to his youth, he could not have imagined being fortunate enough to visit so many countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, China, and India. While travelling, he loves to visit historical sites to complement his passion for history, such as the pyramids in Egypt and Petra in Jordan.

When he is not in school, he enjoys hiking, cycling, following Liverpool FC, reading with a nice cup of coffee, and keeping up with geopolitics.

We are thrilled to have Mr Walsh as part of our BISR community!

πŸ’™ A Legacy of Student Leadership at BISR πŸ’™

Since 2012, 'Senior Jackets' have been a cherished tradition at British International School Riyadh (BISR). They represent the culmination of a student’s journey and are a rite of passage for our graduating class.

What began over a decade ago as a simple hoodie project has evolved into a sophisticated, bespoke, and deeply personalised design process. Today, these jackets are a canvas for our students' identities. Each piece features their names or nicknames and graduation year, often rendered in both English and Arabic as a proud nod to our host country, Saudi Arabia.

Students further customise their jackets to reflect their unique journeys -adding flags from their home countries, the Saudi flag, and the BISR logo -creating a garment that is as much a personal biography as it is a school keepsake.

The tradition itself is entirely student-led. Seniors take full ownership of the process from start to finish. This year, our Head Girl at BISR Al Waha shared the depth of work that goes into bringing this project to life:
"The Senior Jackets project took approximately 10 months from start to finish. We started by creating the initial design, carefully considering colours, style, and features to represent our year group... This balance between individuality and unity was something we were intentional about throughout the project."

Through this project, our students develop essential real-world skills, including:
➑️ Strategic planning & coordination
➑️ Collaborative design & feedback integration
➑️ Problem-solving & communication
➑️ Leadership & project management

The jackets represent the initiative, collaboration, and growth of our graduating classes, past and present.

Do you still have your BISR Senior Jacket? Or perhaps another special school memento that you still hold dear? We’d love to see them! Share a photo or your favourite memory in the comments...

Celebrating Three Centuries of Heritage & Unity πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¦

From the historic roots of Diriyah to the soaring ambitions of today, we are proud to celebrate Saudi Founding Day.

British International School Riyadh campuses across the Kingdom came alive as we gathered to honour the rich history, culture, and foundations of our host country. This day is a reminder of the enduring spirit of Saudi Arabia - a journey that began in 1727 and continues to inspire the world today. Students and staff donned a beautiful array of green outfits and even some heritage costumes from the Kingdom’s many regions in celebration.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for being a gracious host and a land of endless opportunity. We are honoured to be part of this vibrant society and to contribute to its flourishing future by building an enduring educational legacy.

Happy Founding Day! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¦βœ¨

British International School Riyadh (BISR) would like to wish our students, families, staff, partners and the wider community a very peaceful and generous Ramadan Mubarak.

Ramadan is a significant time in our calendar - a period for reflection, gratitude and community spirit. It serves as a wonderful reminder of the values we hold dear at BISR: compassion, mindfulness, and service to others.

We look forward to gathering at Community Iftars across all campuses, where we can share a meal, strengthen our bonds, and celebrate the spirit of the season together.

May this month bring you and your loved ones peace, health, and prosperity.
