π A Legacy of Student Leadership at BISR π
Since 2012, 'Senior Jackets' have been a cherished tradition at British International School Riyadh (BISR). They represent the culmination of a student’s journey and are a rite of passage for our graduating class.
What began over a decade ago as a simple hoodie project has evolved into a sophisticated, bespoke, and deeply personalised design process. Today, these jackets are a canvas for our students' identities. Each piece features their names or nicknames and graduation year, often rendered in both English and Arabic as a proud nod to our host country, Saudi Arabia.
Students further customise their jackets to reflect their unique journeys -adding flags from their home countries, the Saudi flag, and the BISR logo -creating a garment that is as much a personal biography as it is a school keepsake.
The tradition itself is entirely student-led. Seniors take full ownership of the process from start to finish. This year, our Head Girl at BISR Al Waha shared the depth of work that goes into bringing this project to life:
"The Senior Jackets project took approximately 10 months from start to finish. We started by creating the initial design, carefully considering colours, style, and features to represent our year group... This balance between individuality and unity was something we were intentional about throughout the project."
Through this project, our students develop essential real-world skills, including:
β‘οΈ Strategic planning & coordination
β‘οΈ Collaborative design & feedback integration
β‘οΈ Problem-solving & communication
β‘οΈ Leadership & project management
The jackets represent the initiative, collaboration, and growth of our graduating classes, past and present.
Do you still have your BISR Senior Jacket? Or perhaps another special school memento that you still hold dear? We’d love to see them! Share a photo or your favourite memory in the comments...
